Care
Care difficulty: BeginnerA fast-growing selection suited to beginners once established. Allow room for its large crown and hanging fronds. Water the moss thoroughly, let excess water drain, and let the mount dry before watering again. Keep small, newly rooted plants lightly moist rather than letting them dry out completely.
Place near a bright window with strong sun softened by a sheer curtain, or use a grow light that covers the whole plant. Even illumination helps the long fronds develop without curling toward a narrow pool of light. Keep air moving around the mount and shade it from hot direct sun.
Keep warm and protect from frost and prolonged summer heat. Water less often when cooler conditions slow drying.
Hang it where its branching fronds have room to spread without being knocked or caught. Support the board when moving the plant and avoid bending the fronds.
Description
An upright shield-frond crown sits above arching and hanging fertile fronds that build a layered display.
The shield fronds rise above the growing point and develop a tall crown with pointed upper lobes.
The pale fertile fronds branch repeatedly and hang in layers. Japanese grower JISAKUBO documents extensive branching in mature plants and finely curled tips on spore-bearing fronds.
